OpenAI is expanding its advertising business into India while strengthening its commercial operations in Brazil, underscoring the growing importance of two of ChatGPT's largest international markets. ChatGPT Ads are rolling out in India for logged-in adult users on the Free and Go tiers, while paid plans including Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Education remain ad-free.
According to reporting cited by Seeking Alpha, the Indian launch is beginning with more than 50 brands and involves agency partners including WPP and Omnicom. OpenAI has also been developing a self-service Ads Manager and CPC-based buying tools as it builds a broader advertising platform around the high-intent conversations users have with ChatGPT. The company says advertisements remain clearly separated from organic answers and do not influence ChatGPT's responses.
At the same time, OpenAI has announced the launch of commercial operations in Brazil, with a local team based in São Paulo. The company says Brazil is now one of ChatGPT's three largest markets by weekly active users and that Brazilian users send approximately 215 million messages to ChatGPT each day. ChatGPT Ads had already launched in Brazil earlier in August, making the country's expanding commercial operation particularly relevant as OpenAI develops both enterprise relationships and advertising revenue internationally.
The parallel moves show how quickly ChatGPT is evolving from a subscription-led AI product into a broader commercial platform. India offers enormous scale among Free and lower-cost Go users, while Brazil combines rapid adoption with a growing local business ecosystem. For advertisers, both markets offer access to consumers at moments when they are actively researching, comparing products or preparing to make decisions.
